Beginner Obedience – Designed for puppies and adult dogs 3 months and up. We train basic obedience skills including sit, down, walking nicely on leash, stay, come, socialization and other skills. We pay special attention to avoiding bad habits for our puppies and retraining these habits in our adolescent and adult dogs.
Level II Obedience – Students who wish to continue training can do so in this Level II class. In this class we move towards cementing the basics and taking them to the next level. We proof our existing exercises to be more reliable in the face of distractions as well as cover class requested items. We add advanced hand signals with distance work, as well as fronts and finishes. A few Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exercises are also included for those wishing to pursue this award in the future. My advanced students are usually invited to participate in demonstrations at local festivals where I am asked to have an information booth and give demos on dog training. The level II class is a pre-requisite for Rally and recommended for CGC.
Rally Obedience – The next level of group class offered for those who want to perfect their heeling and have some fun! We do a brief review of our manners and then we Rally. Whether you are interested in entering the exciting world of dog obedience competition or not, this is a great way to learn additional skills and keep your dog sharp and paying attention. This class is usually taught on Saturdays, but occasionally during the week.
Advanced / Competition Obedience – For those students bitten by the training bug! Most want to compete in obedience or Rally, but some just want to continue adding skills and perfecting their training. We prepare the students and dogs for Rally or Novice level competition. This class is usually only offered in preparation of an upcoming trial. AKC obedience regulations are covered, show etiquette, and preparing your dog to work in different locations. Also can be taught on a one on one basis.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) – This award given by the AKC is a test of your dog’s skills. Offered twice yearly as a short group class with testing upon completion. Testing occasionally on an individual basis. See CGC page for additional information.
